Lee Bailey's Tomatoes
Published in Hardcover by Clarkson N. Potter (July, 1992)
Average review score:

Small but tastyThis is a short, compact cookbook specializing in tomato recipes. It is beautfifully illustrated with some of the finest food photography I've ever seen. The recipes are uniformly straight-forward, requiring only basic ingredients and fairly standard equipment. The modestly competent home cook will have no difficulty with most of the recipes here. If you've ever stared at your tomato patch wondering what the heck to do with all those tomatoes, this is the book for you. I've made almost every recipe herein and loved almost every one. But the tomato spoonbread is my favorite. Its almost worth the price of the book just for that recipe.

Liberator Album: B-24 Liberators of the 2nd Air Division, Usaaf
Published in Hardcover by Specialty Pr (August, 1998)
Average review score:

Excellent review of Eighth Air Force B-24 aircraftI was pleasantly surprised when I read B-24 Album for the first time. I own most of the books listed in the authors' bibliography, and yet I found B-24 Album new and refreshing. Unlike other books that attempt to cover the entire career of the B-24, this one sticks to the subject, and does it well. The text is readable, and there's good information for modelers like myself. One thing I was surprised to learn, and I've seen it nowhere else, is that the bomb bay doors were painted a deep yellow-orange at the bottom to alert others that the bomb bay was open. I plan to include this feature in my next model. The photographs are, for the most part, good quality, and a great deal of detail can be seen. Most of the photographs I have not seen before. Also, the photos are keyed to particular aircraft by AAF serial number and nickname, if known, together with notations as to whether the ship survived the war, or if not, where it went down, or if it was involved in a non-combat accident. The colored profiles at the back of the book are of good quality. I recommend it.

Living Stones Pilgrimage: With the Christians of the Holy Land
Published in Paperback by Cassell (November, 1998)
Average review score:

The guide to Christian travel in and around Jerusalem. Many travel guides can tell you locations and the history of the monuments around Jerusalem. But this one tells you the histories of the various Christian communities who worship there. Its focus is not architecture but worship. It provides insights into their traditions as well. Most importantly perhaps, it provides contact information and tells the schedules of worship services.
The authors do not assume any prior theological or historical knowledge; everything is simple and straightforward. In the back of the book is a map of central Jerusalem on which most of the monuments can be located. There is a brief, helpful section on Bethlehem and Nazareth as well.
In short, most travel guides are not written for Christian worshippers, but this one is. This books purpose is to enable Christian travellers to find communities, learn about them, and join with them in worship. If you want that experience to be part of your trip to Jerusalem and Israel, this is exactly the book you need.

Lydia Bailey
Published in Paperback by Down East Books (January, 2001)
Average review score:

A classic adventure storyIt's been more than thirty years since I first read "Lydia Bailey" and I'm glad to see it available again after years out of print. Kenneth Roberts was a terrific writer and he has a terrific story to tell, with action ranging from New England in the early 1800's, to Haiti during Toussaint L'Ouverture's rebellion, to the Barbary Coast. This novel is a little bit detective story, a whole lot of rousing adventure and just the right amount of romance, mixed in with plenty of pointed observations along the way about political shenanigans and the highs and lows of human nature. They really don't write 'em this way any more--which is a shame. Very highly recommended!

Macworld Photoshop 3 Bible
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (January, 1995)
Average review score:

Best all-around Photoshop book availableAn incredible resource for information on Photoshop. McClelland covers beginning to advanced topics in an easy-to-read, fun and amusing style. He makes even the most advanced topics easy to understand. This book is targeted mainly at the features available within Photoshop rather than the plethora of special effects filters available, although he does mention some of these. This book unleashes the hidden powers within Photoshop and provides ways to experiment with all of the tools in ways you might not have considered prior to reading the book. Unusual for a technical book, this book is entertaining enough that one can sit and read for enjoyment, or search through it for specific information, easy to find with an excellent index and table of contents. The CD-ROM contains three introductory chapters from the previous edition of the book so that more new information could be included in the same size book

Manual of Cultivated Plants : Most Commonly Grown in the Continental United States and Canada
Published in Paperback by The Blackburn Press (July, 2001)
Average review score:

The Classic Plant Identification BookLyberty Hyde Bailey, one of the first of Cornell University's long line of distinquished botanists has written some of the most important plant identification books in the library. All of his books are treasures to serious botanists and all are hard to find. Many of Bailey's books were used as textbooks but many were never resold; they are that valuble to botanists worldwide. This book is no exception. A valuable reference, it is used as a key to identify genus and species of many cultivated plants by providing such details as petal number, sepal number and location, fruiting habit, stamens and pistil appearance and placement and many more details necessary to plant identification. Bailey even includes the name of the scientists who gave the plant its first binomial nomenclature (the genus and species). Get this one if you can.
